I found this author bio of George Eliot in a 1951 paperback of Silas Marner:

That's it—the whole author bio. WTF? First of all, George Henry Lewes wasn't her husband: they were living in sin. Secondly, "it was her husband...who was responsible"? Way to transfer agency back to the patriarchy.
